Joan Lee Stoskel Allen
Loving mother, wife, sister
Joan Lee Stoskel Allen was taken by the hand of Jesus and led to her heavenly home Saturday, June 15, 2013, surrounded by her children after fighting a long and tiring battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born October 26, 1931, in Marianna, the first born of the late Stella Marie Frameli and Peter Paul Stoskel.
Mrs. Allen lived most of her life in Marianna, until moving with her daughter in 1992 to Houston.
She was a graduate of West Bethlehem High School, where she was a cheerleader. This was a story shared many times by her and her granddaughter, Joanna, who also was a cheerleader.
On March 4, 1949, she married the love of her life, Clement F. Allen Sr. Together, they raised five children, Kathleen M. Allen of Houston, with whom she made her home, Judith A. Penn (Dave) of Taylorstown, Clemmy Allen of Washington, Stella Diane Allen of Houston and George Michael, the baby, (Georgeanna) of Waynesburg.
Mrs. Allen loved baking, growing roses and bowling. She was a loving mother, wife and sister and will be forever missed.
Surviving are five grandchildren, David H. Penn of Pittsburgh, Thomas W. Matiyasic of Canonsburg, Cara L. Nadberazny (Joe) of Washington, Michael F. Allen (Lisa) of Fredericktown and Joanna Marie Allen of Waynesburg; sisters Clara Miller (Chuck) of Marianna, Lucille Kovacich (Frank) of Deemston Borough and Marlene Coughenour (Frank) of Washington; a brother, George Stoskel (Ruth) of Washington; a daughter-in-law, Candy Allen of Washington; several nieces and nephew; and a very special friend, Marva Andrevich of Marianna.
She was able to welcome her first great-grandchild, Rosaleigh Nadberazny, in February 2013.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a sister, Dorothy Mancini, and three nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in Sts. Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church, St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Marianna, with Father Paul Grunebach as celebrant. Burial will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna.
Mrs. Allen loved her family, baking, decorating cakes and gardening, all of which she could no longer remember. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 3544 North Progress Avenue, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110-9638, www.alz.org.
