Gerald R. “Jerry” Sims, 68, of Houston, died Monday, June 24, 2013, in Kindred Hospital, Oakdale.

He was born November 2, 1944, in Midland, a son of Edward and Edna Elder Sims.

Mr. Sims worked for Pennsylvania American Water Co.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Dianna Bowman; six children, Gerald Bowman (Charisse) of Canonsburg, Shane Bowman of Houston, Shelly Wong of Lakewood, Calif., Jeri Williams of Victorville, Calif., Brandi Perkins (Ronald) of Washington and Shayla Green (Phillip) of Coraopolis; two brothers, Edward Sims III (Dinah) and Phillip Sims, both of Canonsburg; three sisters, Lorraine “Pinky” Powell and Edith “Hemmie” Davis (Robert), both of Maryland, and Patricia “Lucy” Sims of Detroit, Mich.; and 12 grandchildren.

Deceased are sister Catherine Mae Sims and two brothers, James Sims and Joseph Settles.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston.
