Edith B. Longstreth

Retired nurse was Aleppo H.S. graduate

Edith B. Longstreth, 90, of Granville, W.Va., formerly of Aleppo, died Friday, June 28, 2013, in Sundale Nursing Home, Morgantown, W.Va., after being in failing health for the past two years.

She was born July 29, 1922, in Aleppo, a daughter of the late James Garfield and Lutie Myrtle McCracken Jones and had resided in Granville since 1961.

Mrs. Longstreth was a member of Aleppo Brethren Church.

She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing bingo and watching television game shows as long as her health permitted.

Mrs. Longstreth was a graduate of the former Aleppo High School and earned her licensed practical nurse certification from Monongalia County (W.Va.) Vo-Tech.

She was employed as an LPN by West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown for about 18 years, prior to retiring in 1985.

On June 19, 1940, she married Paul Edward Longstreth, who died February 19, 1967.

Surviving are a daughter, Martha Jane Longstreth, with whom she shared a home in Granville; two sons, Edward L., husband of Mary Longstreth of Morgantown, and Ted L., husband of Letha Longstreth of Waynesburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a sister, Helen Simms; and six brothers, Harry, Howard, Clyde, Charles, Robert and Carl Jones.
