John L. Bonazza Jr.
John L. “J.B.” Bonazza Jr., 99, of Meadow Lands, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, in Humbert Lane Personal Care Home, South Strabane Township, with his family by his side.
He was born January 1, 1914, in Santiago, Allegheny County, a son of of the late John L. Sr. and Louisa Bonazza.
Mr. Bonazza was a lifelong and devoted member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands, where he served as head usher for many years.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe, where he was a prisoner of war, captured in Italy and interned in Germany.
Mr. Bonazza was last employed at Abex Corp. as a plant guard.
He was an avid sports fan. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Bears in Meadow Lands, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg and, for more than 70 years, was a member of SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane.
On October 12, 1946, he married Ida Marie Caumo, who passed away January 17, 2009.
Surviving are a son, Richard (Joanne) Bonazza of Washington; a granddaughter, Leah (Josh) Argento of Castle Shannon; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bonazza was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are three brothers, Louis, Frank “Beechie” and Angelo Bonazza.
Friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with the Rev. Carmen D’Amico as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Full military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and American Legion Post 902.
