Andrew Cherpak
Andrew Cherpak, 81, of Meadow Lands, died Monday, March 4, 2013, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born February 27, 1932, in Meadow Lands, a son of the late Michael and Mary Jankura Cherpak.
Mr. Cherpak was a corporal in the U.S. Marines, serving with the 1st Marine Division, 7th Marine H-3-7 during the Korean War. He received three battle stars and a Purple Heart.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, 1st Marine Division Association, National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, 2nd Amendment Foundation of American Security Council Freedom Alliance, American Legion Post 902 in Houston, Bears Club in Meadow Lands, Meadow Lands Sportsmen’s Club, Canonsburg Sportsmen’s Club and Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen.
Mr. Cherpak briefly taught geography in Chartiers-Houston School District.
He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Canonsburg.
Surviving are the family he considered his own, Jennifer Merriman and husband Bill and their children, Cassidy, Samantha and Jacob, all of Hickory, and Sam and Rose Fragapane of Canonsburg; his best buddy, Ted Mathis of West Alexander; a close friend, Dominic (Junior) Alteri of Meadow Lands; a half sister; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Stephen, Michael and Peter Cherpak, and a half brother.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, with the Rev. Joseph Jugan officiating.
