Adam R. Thomas

Adam R. Thomas, 87, of Peters Township, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, in Canonsburg General Hospital.

He was born August 27, 1925, in East End in Canonsburg, where he grew up a son of Joseph and Edna Albert Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Canonsburg High School.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In 1955, he moved to Peters Township with his wife, Josephine Urso Thomas, who died in 1991.

For more than 30 years, he worked at the General Motors Fisher Body Plant in McKeesport, as a master tool and dies man.

Mr. Thomas enjoyed harness racing and co-owned and trained horses. He also enjoyed golf, was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved all sports.

Surviving are two sons, Matthew (Christine) Thomas and Daniel (Lynn) Thomas of Peters Township; four grandchildren, Ashlyn, Alex, Elizabeth and Amber; a brother, Anthony Thomas of Washington; a sister, Ruth Reda of McMurray; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are brothers Samuel, Kelly, Joseph, Tommy, Philip and Melvin, and a sister, Lillian Dell.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, with the Rev. Donald Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
