Catherine V. Steinmetz

Catherine V. “Kay” Steinmetz, 74, of Bethel Park, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, in the Center for Compassionate Care in Mt. Lebanon.

She was born March 9, 1939, in Finleyville, a daughter of Robert P. Sr. and Elizabeth Crum VanVoorhis.

Mrs. Steinmetz was retired, after 39 years of service, as a second-grade teacher in Gastonville Elementary Center of Ringgold School District.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville and St. Francis Book Club.

Mrs. Steinmetz was a person with a wonderful sense of humor who was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing bridge.

Surviving are her husband, Henry “Hank” Steinmetz; a son, Stephen E. Columbus of Clarksville; a stepdaughter, Dawn Broadway (Dennis) of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Robert P. VanVoorhis Jr. of Finleyville; two sisters, Betty Amato of Houston and Dottie Bewick of Finleyville; two grandchildren, Sara Pearl and Jacob; a daughter-in-law, Kathi Columbus of Eighty Four; and many nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind her best friend, Connie Zonca.

Deceased is a son, Robert Bradley Columbus.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Kegel Funeral Home Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, 3560 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Finleyville, with the Rev. Richard Tusky as celebrant. Internment will follow in Mingo Cemetery, Finleyville. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
