Michael Matthews, 53, of Pittsburgh, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 24, 2013, in his home.

He was born January 21, 1960, in Washington, a son of Earnest Matthews of Canonsburg and the late Thomasina Lowe.

Mr. Matthews worked at Cellone’s Bakery in Pittsburgh.

He attended Canon-McMillan High School.

Mr. Matthews was a devoted and loving father.

He enjoyed watching basketball and was an avid Steelers fan.

Surviving, in addition to his father, are his significant other, Tamar Matthews of Pittsburgh; six children, Tasha Holt, Michael Matthews Jr. and Tisha, Cheyenne, Charell and Shawn Matthews, all of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Joe, Jasha, Amare and Laila; four sisters, Blanche McClain (James), his twin, Michelle, Pamela and Amanda Matthews; seven brothers, Donald, Dennis (Sherri), Charles, Thomas, Mack, John and Chuckie Matthews; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Deceased are two sisters, Carol and Connie Matthews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
