Grace Lucia McGinty Holod
Grace Lucia McGinty Holod, 84, of Monongahela, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in her home.
She was born April 19, 1928, in Monongahela, a daughter of Charles and Mary Pezzoni McGinty.
Mrs. Holod was a 1946 graduate of Monongahela High School. She began her career as an operator for Bell Telephone Co. in Charleroi and retired in 1990 as a maintenance administrator.
She was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish’s Transfiguration Church and its Ladies of Charity.
Mrs. Holod enjoyed playing cards, especially with PAL Card Club in New Eagle. She and her friends liked to frequent The Meadows to play the penny slots and enjoyed going to Hills Restaurant in New Eagle for a bite to eat. She looked forward to spending time at Rehoboth Beach, Del., loved reading, watching football and basketball on television and made, what her family considered, the meanest ham salad sandwich ever.
She is survived by a daughter, Perri Ann Holod of Washington, D.C.; two nephews, Jack McGinty and wife Marianne of Odenton, Md., and Tom McGinty and wife Linda of Monongahela; a niece, Mary Klinger and husband Jeff of Bentleyville; and several cousins, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Stooge” Holod, who died May 8, 1976; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Margaret “Midge” McGinty; and a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret “Maxine” and Marvin Conner.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, in St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church, with the Rev. William Terza, pastor, as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
