Lorraine M. Brasda
Lorraine M. Brasda, 89, of McDonald, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in Westfield, N.Y.
She was born July 18, 1923, in Sturgeon, a daughter of Alfred and Jane Cadick Chauvet.
Mrs. Brasda was a homemaker and was very active in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, McDonald. She was a member of the church’s Altar Society and choir and was a teacher of the church’s CCD classes.
She was a member of the McDonald Women’s Club and the McDonald Garden Club. She volunteered for the McDonald Meals on Wheels program for more than 40 years and worked on the Board of Elections for 56 years.
On June 1, 1946, she married Stephen V. Brasda, who died October 9, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn L. (Robert) Richmond of Westfield and Jane R. (Richard) Steer of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada; a son, Stephen J. (Patti) Brasda of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Germaine Bres of Carnegie and Helen Morris of Sturgeon; a brother, Marcel “Mark” Chauvet of Cecil; five grandchildren, Matthew and Leah Richmond and Richie, Chris and Cameron Steer; a stepgreat-grandchild, Mary Hawkins; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Alfred, Lucien, Louis “Pie” and Frank Chauvet.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, McDonald, with the Rev. Carl J. Gentile as celebrant. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Township. Memorials are suggested to St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church or to the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department.
