Raymond Leo Zaney, 93, of Cecil, died Monday, May 13, 2013, in his home.

He was born February 13, 1920, in Treveskyn, a son of the late Adam Sr. and Elizabeth Bowen Zaney.

Mr. Zaney was an automotive mechanic and wrecker operator during World War II. He served in the U.S. Army and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and Utah Beach on D-Day. He enjoyed dancing, playing chess, reading, watching John Wayne movies and farming. Mr. Zaney had a unique way of feeding the cats.

He was a member of St. Mary Parish, where he was a former lector and sang in the choir, American Legion in Cecil, where he was past commander and held other offices, and McDonald, where he served for many years. He was a Scout leader in both McDonald and Cecil.

He worked as a self-employed dairy farmer and also worked at RCA in Meadow Lands as a wireman and machinist for more than 20 years.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth McQuillan Zaney; son Raymond Lawrence (Sarita) Zaney; three grandchildren, Raymond Thomas (Danielle Latoza Pope) Zaney, Sarita Ann (Scott Zeszetek) Zaney and Elizabeth Marie (Abram Soldati) Zaney; and four great-grandchildren, Maria, Morgan Leo, Riley Rae and James Zaney, all of Cecil.

Deceased are four brothers, Earl, Adam, Edgar and Norman Zaney, and a sister, Dorothy Waz.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road (Route 50), Cecil, where prayers of transfer will be said at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, followed by a Christian funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cecil, with Father Stan Gregorek officiating.

Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, where full military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 902 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 191 Honor Guard.
