Ignatius Yonis

Ignatius “Iggy” Yonis, 84, of Cedar Grove, died at 10:26 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, in his home.
He was born on February 1, 1929, in Avella, son of the late Dominic and Amelia Norowska Yonis.
Mr. Yonis was a 1947 graduate of Avella High School and was a lance corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he was a Purple Heart recipient.
He was employed by Weirton Steel Corp. as a steel pourer for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He also worked on his beef cattle farm until the time of his death.
Mr. Yonis was Catholic.
He was the last of his immediate family. Mr. Yonis is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were three sisters, Josephine, Mary and Dorothy Bracken, and six brothers, Matthew and Steve Petka, and Joseph, Michael, Stanley and Walter Yonis.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, with the Rev. Robert M. Staszewski officiating.
