Gladys Anderson, 91, of West Middletown, died at 10:18 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

She was born September 25, 1921, in West Middletown, a daughter of the late George H. and Lauretta Buchanan Wilhelm.

Mrs. Anderson was a 1940 graduate of Trinity High School and was a member of Grove United Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On June 1, 1940, she married Frederick J. Anderson, who died December 20, 1991.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Surviving are three daughters, Darlene Locq of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Jean (James) Brown of Front Royal, Va., and Carolyn (Dale) Ritchey of Washington; a son, Frederick J. (Donna) Anderson Jr. of Orange, Va.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are two sisters, Jean Kovalcik and Sarah Brownlee.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, with the Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Burial will be in West Middletown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grove U.P. Church.

Judy A. Demko Cernava, 64, of Pahrump, Nev., formerly of Canonsburg, died Friday, May 17, 2013, in Nevada.

Leslie Fowler Emerson, 86, of McMurray, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013.

He was born July 5, 1926, in Canonsburg, a son of Jessie Fowler Emerson and Edward Boucher Emerson.

Mr. Emerson graduated from Canonsburg High School in 1944 and enlisted June 16, 1944, in the U.S. Navy, serving two years on active duty and two years in the reserves. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, he was employed at McGraw Edison as an electrical engineer, until he retired in 1988.

On June 22, 1951, he married Dorothy Jean Brouwer. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this year.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, the Rev. Charles D. Emerson and wife Debbie, Laurie E. Bochner and husband Jay and Lynn R. Emerson, Esq., and partner Jean M. Morris; and four grandchildren, David E. Emerson, Rachel E. Emerson, Jamie Lynn Lehman (Lt. Nick Lehman) and Seaman Apprentice Chase A. Bochner.

He loved his Lord and served as an elder at Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church. He was especially devoted to the choir, often treating the congregation to uplifting solos. His enjoyment of music was apparent throughout his life. He mastered computers and had a personal computer long before most people comprehended the idea of having a computer in their home. He was an avid photographer and spent many happy hours in the darkroom with his children, developing pictures. Model trains and elaborate train layouts were of particular interest to him, as well.

A lifetime of living honestly and at peace with his fellow man attests to a life well-lived. He will be missed by his family and many friends who loved him dearly.

Myrl G. Lemasters McLaughlin, 97, of Washington, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.

She was born May 13, 1916, in Wetzel County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Francis and Rosa Wise Lemasters.

Mrs. McLaughlin retired from Was Farming.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Lawrence in 1997; three sisters, Goldie, Geraldine Palmer and Dorothy Newman and husband Kenneth; two brothers, Shirrel and Verl; and a son, Dale and wife Janell McLaughlin.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley (Jack) Mastnock of Washington; sister Kathleen (Paul) Huggins of Wileyville, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Rhonda Shough and John (Jannie) McLaughlin; great-granddaughter Kayla Shough; and several nieces and nephews.

Judi Ann Santella, 62, of Clarksville, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

She was born August 8, 1950, in Waynesburg, a daughter of Paul and Evelyn “Babe” Mason Westich of Fredericktown.

Mrs. Santella was a 1968 graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School and a 1970 graduate of Pittsburgh Beauty Academy in Charleroi.

For several years, she owned and operated a beauty shop in Clarksville. She was also formerly employed by Janet Wood State Farm Insurance Agency as a licensed staff agent.

She was a lifelong member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, and a first responder for Clarksville and Community Volunteer Fire Department.

Mrs. Santella enjoyed crafts, including ceramics, making jewelry, silk floral arrangements and flower gardening. Playing golf with her husband whenever she could brought her special enjoyment.

On November 3, 1973, she married Robert C. Santella, who survives. They celebrated 39 years of marriage.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are a daughter, Nicole Santella of Pittsburgh; sister Paula Marodi of Chesterton, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, with the Rev. Paul Grunebach as celebrant. Interment will follow in Fredericktown Cemetery. A parish vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. L. Ruth Stark, 84, formerly of Carmichaels, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

She was born November 17, 1928, in Uniontown, a daughter of the late Thomas Burns and Winnona Gwen Silar Hunt.

On October 7, 1947, she married James Lewis Stark, who died August 30, 1984.

Surviving are two daughters, Alice Jean, wife of Charles Corwin of Waynesburg, and Kelley Lee, wife of Joseph Bukovinsky of Candler, N.C.; four sons, Lewis James Stark of Carmichaels, John Lestley, husband of Sharon Stark of Clinton, Paul Daniel, husband of Betsy Stark of Cynthianna, Ky., and Harry Glenn, husband of Cheri Stark of Mather; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister; three half brothers; and two half sisters.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, Charles D. Stark, who died in 2002; a brother; a sister; and three half brothers.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation, and a private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
