George J. Laskody Jr.

McGraw Edison retiree was U.S. Navy veteran

George J. Laskody Jr., 76, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, in HCR ManorCare, McMurray.

He was born December 20, 1936, in Brownsville, a son of the late George Joseph Sr. and Helen Ethel Wallace Laskody.

Mr. Laskody was a 1954 graduate of Centerville High School.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1955 to 1958.

Mr. Laskody was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2026 of Canonsburg, where he held several offices.

He was formerly employed by McGraw Edison, Canonsburg, where he worked in the bushing department.

Mr. Laskody enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and poker. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penquins and Pirates fan.

On February 8, 1962, he married Betty Jane Balog, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Gina Kraushaar (Chuck) of Muse and Lory Kostas (George) of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and Renee Kostas; and a sister, Kathie Burchick (Jack) of LaBelle.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with the Rev. Paul Grunebach officiating. Military rites will be accorded graveside by VFW Post 191, Canonsburg, and American Legion Post 902, Houston. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of John B. Greenlee Funeral Home.
