Theresa Josephine Headley
Championship bowler sang in church choir
Theresa Josephine Headley, 80, of Clarksville, died Friday, May 24, 2013, after a 16-month courageous battle against an aggressive cancer. Her family was with her at the Laurel Ridge Center in Uniontown at the time of her death.
She was born October 3, 1932, in Dry Tavern, a daughter of Lucy and Martin Grash.
Mrs. Headley was an alumna of Jefferson High School in Jefferson and a member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, St. Michael’s Church, in Fredericktown.
She had two sons, Edward William Headley and Albert Martin Headley, whom she loved dearly, and two grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher Headley, who were the light of her life.
Mrs. Headley and her late husband, Albert Duvall Headley, owned the Headley Country Bowl in Carmichaels. She was an avid, excellent bowler and a longtime member of the Pennsylvania State Women’s Bowling Association. Consistently winning many competitive certificates and awards, she participated annually in women’s and mixed bowling leagues through the end of 2011. She loved to discuss her weekly scores with everyone, and she cherished the camaraderie of her teammates. Competing in state-wide Championship Bowling Tournaments, in which she also won awards, was a highlight for her each year.
She was always a hard worker who, in her retirement years, had a cleaning business which supplemented her income and enabled her to continue her active lifestyle. She loved taking time to make new friends while continuing to enhance her many longtime cherished friendships. Some of the things that she loved to do, in addition to bowling, were playing table games, visiting with friends and family, watching Pennsylvania-based professional and collegiate sports teams compete, collecting recipes and cookbooks, cooking and baking, singing in her church choir and playing her Wurlitzer organ at home.
Mrs. Headley enjoyed doing things for her friends and family, and she gained strength from her deep faith in God and her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She knew that she had the gift of eternal life, and she was secure in that knowledge.
Surviving are her sons, Edward W. Headley and wife Janet E. Michael of Portland, Maine, and Albert M. Headley and girlfriend Dandi Tamburlin of Crucible; grandsons Nicholas and Christopher Headley; and siblings Mary Ann Russell, Margaret Pilie and Carl and Joseph Grash.
Deceased are her parents, Martin and Lucy Grash; husband Albert Duvall “Skip” Headley, who died May 24, 1998; a brother, Leonard Grash; and a sister, Helen Suehowicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, in St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, St. Michael’s Church, 21 Bank Street, Fredericktown, with Celebrant Father Paul J. Grunebach and Homilist the Rev. Deacon Thomas Raymond.
Following the Mass, a Celebration of Life luncheon will be held in Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville. Subsequently, interment will be in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Crucible.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Headley’s memory may be made to St. Oliver Plunkett Parish (Ladies of Charity). Arrangements are being handled by Frank Burkus Funeral Home, Millsboro.
