Helen A. Horwatt

Helen A. Horwatt, 96, of Canonsburg, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, in Manor Care of Peters Township.
She was born March 21, 1917, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Wasyl and Julia Balash Stanko.
Mrs. Horwatt lived her entire life in Canonsburg and was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, where she helped with many church functions.
In her early years, she worked for the former Continental Can and with her husband in the shipyards.
Mrs. Horwatt was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, especially during the holidays.
She had been a member of the former Rosary Society and choir at St. Michael’s.
On July 30, 1940, she married Frank T. Horwatt, who passed away August 10, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, C. deRicci Horwatt of Canonsburg; granddaughter deRicci T. (Joshua) Horwatt-Getty of Canonsburg; a sister, Julia Rock, and a brother, William Stanko, both of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a son, F. Theodore Horwatt, who passed away Sunday, October 22, 2005; four brothers, John, Steve, Michael and Nicholas “Chike” Stanko; and three sisters, Mary McCensky, Anna Addis and Sophia Mandus.
Friends are welcome from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 3, in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Canonsburg, with the Rev. Joseph Jugan, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Panahida services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
