Edward J. Jagoda
Army veteran, U.S. Steel retiree
Edward J. Jagoda, 66, of Rensselaer, Ind., formerly of Crown Point, Ind., passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013, in Jasper County Hospital.
He was born July 6, 1947, in Dry Tavern, a son of Anna Baniecki Jagoda and Joseph Jagoda Sr.
Mr. Jagoda was a 1965 graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1966 to 1968.
Mr. Jagoda retired from U.S. Steel Gary Works, Local 1066, after 36 years, where he was a millwright at the Eighty Four Hotstrip Mill.
On September 24, 1966, in Crown Point, he married Mona A. Vonderheid, who survives.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Bishop Dwenger Council 1881, where he enjoyed working the Friday night fish fries.
Mr. Jagoda enjoyed hunting, especially archery, traveling, spending time outdoors and always appreciated a good practical joke.
He was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his loving family, wife Mona of Rensselaer; son James (Barbara) Jagoda of Brookston, Ind.; daughter Julie A. Jagoda of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters Doloris McClelland of Washington and Joanne (Roger) Zackfia of Morocco, Ind.; a brother, Joseph (Freda) Jagoda Jr. of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m Wednesday in Jackson Funeral Chapel, Rensselaer. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 7, in St. Augustine Catholic Church, Rensselaer, with Father Don Davison officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Crown Point, with military rites. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Scleroderma Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, St. Augustine School or Gibault Foundation.
