Former Trinity Area School District teacher

Ruth I. Johnson, 95, of Washington, died Monday, November 4, 2013, in Evergreen Personal Care Home, Washington.

She was born September 17, 1918, in Malden, a daughter of the late David and Mary Maude Kemper Staley.

Mrs. Johnson was a 1936 graduate of Brownsville High School and received her bachelor’s of education degree from California State Teachers College in 1943.

For 36 years, she was an elementary school teacher for Trinity Area School District, working 16 of those years at Windsor Elementary School.

She was a member of PSEAR and enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and needlepoint.

On February 27, 1942, she married Sylvester “Curly” Johnson, who died September 20, 2008.

Surviving are two sons, William L. Johnson (Tammy) and Robert D. Johnson (Hilary), both of Washington; four grandchildren, Daniel, Douglas, Dale and Jeremy Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, Caitlin Johnson, Natalie Johnson, Aidan Tarr, Gavin Serefini, Jillian Johnson, Claire Johnson, Emma Johnson and Sydney Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are two sisters, Edna and Helen Rankin, and three brothers, Bob, Frank and Byron Staley.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 8. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
