Canon-McMillan cook was St. Patrick Church member
Mary C. Binder, 93, of Greensburg, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, in her home, with her loving family by her side.
She was born June 15, 1920, in Bridgeville, a daughter of the late Edoardo and Teresa Valenzano Andreone.
Mrs. Binder lived most of her life in Canonsburg and the past eight years in Greensburg.
She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers and Guild.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed for many years as a cook for the dietary department of Canon-McMillan School District.
Mrs. Binder had been a member of SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane, ladies auxiliaries of American Legion Post 902 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and Canonsburg Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed dancing, walking and bingo, among many other games. She also enjoyed gardening and building puzzles.
On November 29, 1947, she married Robert C. Binder, who passed away September 2, 1982.
Surviving are two daughters, Marie (Jeff) Taylor of Sierra Madre, Calif., and Linda (David) Hauck of Irwin; two grandchildren, Marie (Sam) Wilson and Paul (Jill) Hauck; a stepgranddaughter, Laura Taylor; a brother, Gus (Betty) Andreone of Sarasota, Fla.; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a daughter, Patricia Ann Binder, who passed away November 6, 1991; three brothers, Adolf, Robert and Joseph Andreone; and three sisters, Carlotta Valentino, Rose Emling and Rosina Andreone, who died as a child.
Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
