Beloved wife, loving mother

Janice M. Arden, born June 8, 1938, of Finleyville, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013.

She was the beloved wife of Elwin Norman Arden for 35 years; loving mother of Cynthia DeVos-Klingensmith (Jim), Cheryl DeVos-Quail (Tim) and Janice DeVos-Crawford (John); grandmother of six; great-grandmother “GG” of eight; daughter of the late Louis and Myrtle Jones; and sister of 11, preceded in death by six.

Mrs. Arden began life by being totally club-footed and in casts until the age of 11. She rose above her challenge and was the lead singer of The Roulettes in South Carolina.

She returned home to family in Canonsburg.

Mrs. Arden had worked numerous years for optometrists in Canonsburg and Carnegie. She was president of the Parent Teacher Association in Chartiers Valley School District. She worked as chief security officer for Koppers Corp. in Bridgeville. She retired as the owner of Jan’s Contracting Co., where she and husband Norm worked very diligently to make a success.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling to the Amish Country, but her favorite place was Myrtle Beach, S.C. She loved sewing, gardening and shopping.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 13. Interment will be held in Woodruff Memorial Park, North Strabane Township.
