Navy veteran was retired coal miner
Gerald Robert “Bob” Craig, 73, of Mt. Morris, died at 5:02 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013, in his home.
He was born Wednesday, February 7, 1940, a son of the late Leonard Craig and Clarice Hacker Craig.
Mr. Craig was a resident of Mt. Morris most of his life.
He was a 32nd degree Mason at Waynesburg Masonic Lodge 153 F&AM. He was a member of James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992 of Mt. Morris, Mt. Morris Sportsman Club for 43 years, Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461, Bobtown Rod and Gun Club and Bobtown Polish-American Citizens Club.
Mr. Craig was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was on the USS Intrepid during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, all-terrain vehicles and NASCAR. He also enjoyed helping others as the neighborhood mechanic.
Mr. Craig retired from Blacksville 2 Coal Mine in 1997, after working as a coal miner for more than 30 years.
On January 20, 1968, he married Barbara Ann Dively, who died February 24, 2012.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Cole of Mt. Morris; three sons, Douglas (Torrie) Headley of Mifflinburg, Gerald Robert Craig Jr. of Burkesville, Ky., and William Robert (Amanda) Craig of Mt. Morris; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters, Gladys Fox of Morgantown, W.Va., Margaret Nutter of Goldsboro, N.C., and Betty Smith of Mt. Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Deborah Craig, a sister and several brothers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, PA 15349, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, with the Rev. Fred Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris. Graveside military rites will be accorded by James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992 of Mt. Morris.
