Gerald R. “Sonny” Finnegan, 78, of Aleppo Township, Greene County, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013, in his home, after being seriously ill for the past four months.
He was born June 25, 1935, in Aleppo Township, a son of the late Robert Murray and Myrtle Mae Garey Finnegan.
Mr. Finnegan resided in Aleppo Township all his life, where he was a member of Aleppo Brethren Church.
He enjoyed fishing, antique cars and restoration, and was known on the CB waves as “Apple Jack.”
Mr. Finnegan was employed as a laborer and equipment operator by various water and sewer pipeline construction companies for 47 years, and was last employed by David Black Contracting of Wintersville, Ohio, prior to retiring in 1997.
On December 23, 1958, he married Mary Ruth Smith, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Robbie Lee, husband of Tammy Finnegan of Wind Ridge; four grandchildren, Hillary Cumpston, Heather Day and Katelynn and Addison Finnegan; and a sister, Peggy, wife of Asa Hughes of Allentown.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Kenneth L. Finnegan, who died in 2007.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, with the Rev. Larry Holtz officiating. Interment will follow in Centennial Cemetery, Aleppo Township, Greene County.
