Albert T. Penak
World War II veteran
Albert T. Penak, 86, of Fellsburg, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in Good Samaritan Hospice, Wexford.
Born in Donora on September 11, 1927, he was a son of the late John and Mary Metenko Penak.
Mr. Penak served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a personnel clerk in Washington, D.C.. and also in the Korean War within the U.S. Army Occupation Troops in Germany.
An active member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Township, he served as an usher, on parish council and sang in the choir.
He was a former Catholic War Veteran Adjutant and a 2nd Vice Commander and 19th District Commander. He was a member of Ernest Jobes American Legion Post 212 Donora and Donora Elks Lodge 1265, and also delivered Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his son, Brian T. Penak; daughters, Patricia M. Penak Baker, Diane (William) Lundgren and Dana Kantz; six grandchildren, Mikayla Baker, Madison, Katie and Jack Kantz, Alec Penak and Kelista Lundgren; and sisters, Margaret Penak and Pauline Kopas.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are brothers, John and Joseph Penak; and sisters, Helen Penak, Irene Carly and Anne Schmidt.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 23, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne, 1870 Rostraver Road, Belle Vernon, with the Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti as celebrant. Military Honors will be conducted following the funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, the Church of St. Anne, the Donora Library or the Rostraver Library.
