1926-2013

Lemoyne Richard Hughes, 87, of Burgettstown, Hanover Township, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

He was born on July 5, 1926, in New Freeport, a son of the late Alvie Richard and Olive Marie Wright Hughes.

A graduate of Weir High School, he worked as a construction foreman for Weirton Steel for 35 years.

Mr. Hughes served as an Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army during World War II from October 1944, being honorably discharged in 1946. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct, Army Occupation, European African Middle Eastern Campaign and the World War II Victory Medals.

He was a lifetime member of Burgettstown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6955 and American Legion Post 1526.

Mr. Hughes enjoyed the outdoors, watching the Steelers and especially hunting and fishing.

Surviving are three sons, Richard Eugene Hughes and wife Roberta of Burgettstown, David Andrew Hughes and wife Luanne of Burgettstown and Mark Steven Hughes and wife Doreen of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; three daughters, Sandra Lee Macioce and husband Gary of DuBois, Lisa Kay Hughes of Castle Shannon and Lori Ann Gilbert and husband John of Burgettstown; a son-in-law, Mike Johnston of Washington; 14 grandchildren, Rick and Cherity Hughes, Jason and Andy Burt, Brandon Maltony, Lacey Simpson, Devon and Alexandra Hughes, Jack, Molly, and Katie Macioce, Megan Gilbert and Amanda and Scott Johnston; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Sophie Karp Hughes, who died April 15, 2000; a daughter, Donna Marie Johnston; and a brother, Vernon Hughes.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, with the Rev. Dr. Christina Hosler officiating. Internment will follow in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Burgettstown, where he was a member of the board of directors. Full military rites will be accorded.

If so desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to American Heart Association, 10 Duff Road, Suite 304, Pittsburgh, PA 15235-3207.

James I. Maguire, 90, of Washington, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013.

Arrangements are incomplete and have been entrusted to Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Directors Inc. A complete obituary will be published in a later edition.

Loving homemaker

Frances McArdle, 82, of Bobtown, died Monday, November 25, 2013, in Jennings Center for Older Adults, Garfield Heights, Ohio.

She was born December 16, 1930, in Bobtown, a daughter of the late Sophia Domen and Thomas Orban Sr.

Mrs. McArdle was a loving homemaker.

She worked for several in factories in Ohio.

Mrs. McArdle’s beloved husband, Harry McArdle, died July 13, 2004.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, Daniel and Diane, Harry Jr. and Sandra and David and Laura McArdle, all of Ohio; three grandchildren, Garrett, Joseph and Kelcie; her dearest loving and caring neighbors, whom she thought of as family, Ed and Dixie Hornick; and several loving nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Deceased are sister Catherine Danko and brothers Joseph, Thomas Jr., John “Cubby”, Richard, Robert and Victor Orban.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and until 11 a.m., the time of service, Monday, December 2, in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, with the Rev. John Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.

1942-2013

Joyce M. Mull, 71, of Paris, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Weirton Medical Center, W.Va.

She was born April 30, 1942, in Paris, a daughter of the late Oscar Dale “Red” and Neva Wanda Stewart Lyons.

Deceased is her husband of 43 years, James Elery Mull, who died August 6, 2011.

Mrs. Mull was a cat lover, who loved to crochet and play bingo.

She retired after 21 years as a cashier from Giant Eagle in Robinson Township. She was also a home health aide.

Surviving are a daughter, Dreama Kisow (Carl) of Monaca; a son, Dale Mull (Caroline Melech) of Weirton; six grandchildren; a sister, Alesta Kay Allen (Richard) of Weirton; and a brother, Larry Lee Lyons (Maryann) of Georgetown.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Weirton, W.Va., www.steelandwolfe.com.

Member of Unity Church, enjoyed cooking

Margaret L. Rice, 86, formerly of Graysville, died at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

She was born August 6, 1927, in Morris Township, West Union, a daughter of the late Henry Reese Robison Sr. and Inez M. Ullom Robison.

Mrs. Rice was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Graysville.

She was a member of AARP, and enjoyed gardening, cooking and the time spent with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Rice enjoyed being a personal caregiver to her elderly friends and neighbors.

On June 7, 1956, she married Charles Earl Rice, who died January 11, 1964.

Surviving are three sons, Carl, husband of Patti Robison of Ft. Polk, Fla., and Charles E. Rice Jr., husband of Christine Rice and Henry E. Rice, both of Graysville; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Robison of Springfield, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Gary and Carl Robison Jr., Miranda Collins, Rebecca Merriner, Brittany, Christopher and Ashley Rice, Anna Culley and Jessica Gulette; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estella Morris of Sycamore and Betty Daugherty of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, Jesse Earl Robison and six brothers, Henry R. Robison Jr., Jesse C., John Joseph, Harley, Russell and Charles A. Robison Sr.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 2, with Pastor Walt Stevenson and Pastor David Lowe co-officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.

Self-employed painter, loved music

Jesse O. Richter, 63, of Waynesburg, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born March 18, 1950, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Leroy and Marie Tustin Richter.

Surviving are his fiancé, Cynthia Richter; four children, Rita Jo Liptak (Sean) and Clinton “Buddy” Richter (Timi), both of Pittsburgh, Jessica Barlow (Thomas) of Rogersville and Justin Richter of Waynesburg; nine grandchildren; four brothers, Clarence and Richard Richter, both of Waynesburg, Samuel Richter (Jean) of Crucible and Mark Daniel Richter (Carla) of Point Marion; and a sister, Yvonne Renner (Dave) of Waynesburg.

Deceased are two brothers, Charles and Roger Richter, and a sister, Judy Richter.

Mr. Richter was a self-employed painter.

He loved music and singing karaoke.

Mr. Richter was very close to his friends, “Little Red” Ambrose and Burl and Harriet Cain.

James R. Treece, 58, Carmichaels, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, in his home.

There will be no services. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., Carmichaels, is in charge of arrangements.
