John Joseph McNansky
World War II veteran
John Joseph McNansky, 89, of Washington, died Thursday, October 3, 2013, in Humbert Lane, South Strabane Township, following a brief illness.
He was born May 7, 1924, in Adah, a son of Mary Kotarsky.
Mr. McNansky worked as an electrician for 35 years at RCA Corp., where he also served as president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local. He then worked as a caretaker at Immaculate Conception Church for 18 years and had also owned a television repair shop in Marianna.
A self-taught guitarist, he was an avid gardener.
Mr. McNansky was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from May 21, 1943, until his honorable discharge March 28, 1946.
On November 28, 1944, he married Dorothy Jane Safko, who died February 13, 2011.
Surviving are a son, Jack (Mary Lou) McNansky of Lone Pine; a daughter, Barb (Bruce) Metz of Crucible; three grandchildren, Heather (Bob) Lloyd, Tricia (Jason) Ball and Stefanie McNansky; four great-grandchildren, Rylie and Jocelyn Ball and Brayden and Ayceton Lloyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Also left is his dog, Daisy.
Deceased are several brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Washington. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, South Strabane Township. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
