Ruth Ann Carter, 74, of Washington, formerly of Cross Creek, died Friday, October 11, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.
She was born in Washington on October 7, 1939, a daughter of the late J. Harlan and Kathryn R. O’Donnell Bell.
Mrs. Carter was a 1957 graduate of Hickory High School, where she was head majorette, and a 1958 graduate of Maison Felix Beauty School. She also attended a medical assistant class in 1989.
She was a self-employed beautician in her home for many years. She also worked at Mayflower Moving Company and as a secretary for Ball Glass, Washington, until they closed. In 2004, she retired from Washington County Health Center.
Mrs. Carter enjoyed bowling and was a member of the bowling league at the Alpine Club for many years. She loved to do puzzles, play bingo, watch wildlife and be outside, laughing and camping with her friends at Slippery Rock, and spending time with family and friends. She also loved Elvis.
On July 21, 1958 she married Thomas W. Carter, who is deceased.
Surviving are a son, Bill Carter (Debbie); daughter Robin Carter Powell (Mark); a brother, James W. Bell; sister Virginia L. Engle; grandson Shawn Carter; stepgranddaughter Rachel; niece Cindy Shaw and nephew Douglas Bell.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, in Cross Creek Presbyterian Church, 1231 Cross Creek Road, Burgettstown.
