Helen N. Santoro, 94, of Hawthorne Woods, Washington, formerly of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Fredericktown, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013, in her home.
She was born October 6, 1919, in Davis, W.Va., a daughter of the late Frank and Casimir Eizonas Staskus.
Mrs. Santoro lived most of her life in the Fredericktown area, where she was a member of St. Michaels Church. She then lived in Fort Walton Beach, where she was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and served as an usherette.
A homemaker, she was an avid bowler, member of the Sons of Italy, Elkettes of Lodge 1795 in Ft. Walton, where she served as the second vice president, and the ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus St. Mary’s Counsel.
On August 11, 1937, she married Fred Santoro, who died March 1, 1983.
Surviving are a son, Frederick of McMurray; daughter Cynthia McMannes of Mentor, Ohio; three grandchildren, Crystal McMannes, Fred Michael and Gary Steven Santoro; two sisters, Mary Mace of Reno, Nev., and Frances Fichtner of White Oak; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a sister, Juanita Slovinsky and three brothers, Charles, Joseph and John Staskus.
At Mrs. Santoro’s request, there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be private.
