Served in Army

John E. Boyce, 75, of Monongahela, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, in his home.

He was born August 20, 1938, in New Eagle, a son of the late Walter E. and Thelma McCarty Boyce.

Mr. Boyce retired from the former Western Pennsylvania Water Company, where he worked as a meter reader and plant operator.

He was a 1957 graduate of Monongahela High School.

Mr. Boyce served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1967 and was stationed in Korea.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Monongahela, a member and past master of the Henry M. Phillips Masonic Lodge 337 in Monongahela, Association of Masonic Veterans, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Legion of Honor, Carroll Township American Legion Post 949 and Monongahela Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Sickenberger Boyce, whom he married February 12, 1960; a son, John D. Boyce (Deanna Kennedy) of Canonsburg; a daughter, Jonna J. Ferrance of Monongahela; a sister, Kathleen Boyce of Monongahela; two grandsons, Trevor and Logan Ferrance; cousins Grant and Esther McCarty of New Eagle; sister-in-law Mary Alice Boyce of Monongahela; and special friends the Rev. David and Donna Smoley of Erie.

Deceased are a brother, Walter D. Boyce; an uncle, Leroy Boyce; and an aunt, Ida V. Boyce.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, www.marshallmarrafuneralhome.com. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, in First United Methodist Church, 430 West Main Street, Monongahela, with the Rev. Ronald Fleming and the Rev. Donald Smoley co-officiating. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. The Henry M. Phillips Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, and Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad will conduct funeral honors at the cemetery.

Elco resident

Pauline P. Huber, 98, of Elco, passed away peacefully Monday, October 21, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, in Justine’s Personal Care Home, Allenport.

She was born January 10, 1915, in Roscoe, a daughter of the late Cosimo and Maria Ferrere Polizzi.

Mrs. Huber was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe, Council of Exceptional Children, American Association of University Women (California branch), Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and American Legion Post 801 Auxiliary.

After attending Roscoe public schools and California High School, she went to California Teachers College, where she proudly received one of the first special education teaching degrees.

Education was extremely important in her life. She had a rewarding career as a devoted teacher at Hilltop School in Jessup, Md., Washington public schools, Monongahela public schools and California public schools.

In her free time, she always enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish wonderful memories are daughters Paula Anderson and husband James of Washington and Gail Abercrombie and husband Martin of Elco, with whom she resided; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Nancy Huber of Naperville, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, William T. Huber; son J. William Huber; sisters Lucretia Inserra, Virginia Sargent Janus and Mary Santariello; and brother Frank Polizzi.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a prayer service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, October 31, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roscoe, with the Rev. Mike Zavage officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center. American Legion Post 801 Auxiliary will conduct their service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Member of Transfiguration Church

Berenice Lorraine Pinchalk, 84, of Monongahela, died Friday, October 25, 2013, in Monongahela Valley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 23, 1928, in New Eagle, a daughter of the late William and Agnes Hahn Collins.

Mrs. Pinchalk was a graduate of Monongahela High School.

In her younger years, she was employed as an operator at Bell Telephone. She then worked at the Monongahela Valley Hospital for 18 years, until her retirement in 1994.

She was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church, Monongahela, and the Democratic Womens Club.

Mrs. Pinchalk enjoyed Wii bowling, bingo and especially going out to eat. In fact, she went out to lunch once a month with the ladies she worked with at the hospital.

Surviving are three daughters, Denise and husband Ralph Losey Jr. of Mt. Lebanon, Teri Pinchalk Abdala and husband Victor of Downingtown and Toni Pinchalk Raymond of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, devoted granddaughter Dawn and her husband Sam McPherson, Lance Losey, Danielle Losey Sakmar, Tesia and husband Theron Huff, Travis and wife Paige Abdala, Rachelle and husband Jason Nutt, Randi Raymond, Zachary and wife Samantha Raymond, Logan Raymond and Kaitlyn Raymond; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor and Chase McPherson, Rebecca and Julia Losey, Nevaeha and Zoey Bailey, Averi Nutt and Evelyn Huff; a great-great-granddaughter, McKenna McPherson; two nieces, Berenice and husband Mike Castellana of Tampa, Fla.; and Maureen Starinsky Maher of Monongahela.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Anthony Pinchalk, who died January 1, 1974; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Steve Starinsky.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, October 31, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church, Monongahela, with the Rev. William Terza, as celebrant. Committal service and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.

The nurses on four east at the Monongahela Valley Hospital and the staff of Residence at Hilltop cared for her.
