Curtis E. Patterson
Vietnam War veteran was avid fisherman
Curtis E. “Buddy” Patterson, 70, of Washington, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born April 9, 1943, in Washington, a son of Everett and Mary Kelley Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was a graduate of Avella High School. Following his graduation, he served four years with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
After his tour with the U.S. Army, he went to work for Kaiser Steel in San Bernardino, Calif.
He served as a pastor in Calexico, Calif., from 1968 to 1970, and from 1971 to 1973, he pastored in Kansas City, Mo. Following his time in Kansas City, he went to work as a supervisor, first for Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio, then for Volkswagen in New Stanton, until its closing and then for Chrysler in Twinsburg, Ohio, from where he retired.
He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Warren.
Mr. Patterson was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are seven children, Rebecca Carter (Brett) of Charlotte, N.C., Laura Montue (Terrance) and Lisa Croom (Kenneth), both of Pittsburgh, Curtis E. Patterson Jr. of Gulf Port, Miss., Christinia Bright (Michael) of Newark, N.J., and Karla Patterson-Bryant and Keysha Patterson, both of Biloxi, Miss.; a sister, Virginia Dockery of Cerritos, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, John “Stump”, William “Wienie”, James and Frank Patterson; and five sisters, Evelyn Lacey, Margaret Patterson, Barbara Gordon, Mazie Dungee and M. Joanne Brown.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, in St. Paul AME Church, Ridge Ave., Washington. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
