Dennis Roskowski
UPS driver, exceptional baseball player
Dennis “The Doctor” Roskowski, 62, of Houston, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Canonsburg, where he received compassionate care and support.
He was born May 22, 1951, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Zigmund and Lillian Whitfield Roskowski.
Mr. Roskowski was a 1969 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School and received his associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State, McKeesport Campus, in 1971.
He worked for 27 years as a UPS driver, retiring in 2003.
Mr. Roskowski was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 in Houston.
He was an exceptional baseball player, being scouted by the Montreal Expos in 1970. He enjoyed all Pittsburgh sports and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Roskowski loved music and had an extensive music collection.
He is survived by a loving companion of 24 years, Sandy Oliverio Phillips of Houston; four sisters, Barbara Lento of Houston, Cathy Perri (Anthony) of New Cumberland, W.Va., Betsy McCarthy of Houston and Peggy Unghajer (Tom) of Upper St. Clair; four stepchildren; nine stepgrandchildren, who called him “Pappy D”; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon Sunday, September 29, in Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg.
