Chemical engineer was active church member

Kenneth Ronald Werner, 77, of Canonsburg, died Monday, September 16, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born in Minot, N.D., a son of the late Elmer and Helen Dendinger Werner.

Mr. Werner was a member of Holy Rosary Parish and Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council, where he was financial secretary, and Fourth Degree Bishop Hugh C. Boyle Assembly. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, going to the Pops and shows in Pittsburgh. He liked to stay current on issues by reading and using his computer, and he was always helping organizations with his financial know-how.

He graduated from the University of North Dakota and worked as a chemical engineer on a nuclear submarine project for Westinghouse in West Mifflin.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Blasco Werner of Canonsburg; a son, Brian (Ann Marie Ryan) Werner of Okemos, Mich.; a daughter, Bonnie (Eric) Manz of Cecil; three grandchildren, Marilyn and Clair Werner and Madison Manz; and a brother, Edward (Deanna) Werner of Minot.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road (Rt. 50), Cecil, where prayers of transfer will be said at 9:20 a.m. Friday, September 20, followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Muse, with Father George DeVille officiating. Entombment will follow in Mary Mother of Church Mausoleum at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. The Knights of Columbus wake service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The family suggests donations to Mary Help of Christian Center, 6400 E. Chelsea Street, Tampa, FL 33610.
