Nurses’ aide loved her grandchildren, animals

Sarah Virginia Elliott Rodgers, 73, of West Finley, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, September 24, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

She was born May 25, 1940, in Washington, a daughter of Clarence Furgeson Knight and Estella Virginia Reese Knight.

Mrs. Rodgers was a graduate of Trinity High School. For 25 years, she worked as a nurses’ aide in various personal care homes and Washington Hospital. She also worked as a cashier at Sunoco in Washington.

She had an interest in all Native American history and culture. She also loved her grandchildren and was an animal lover.

Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.

She was Baptist.

On January 9, 1960, she married William David Elliott, who died October 1973.

On November 27, 1989, she married Robert Edward Rodgers, who died October 4, 1995.

Surviving are two sons, William Elliott Jr. of West Finley and Michael Elliott (Reda) of Prosperity; a daughter, Jenny Zeszutek (Mark) of Beallsville; a stepson; a stepdaughter; a sister, Vicki Lee Knight Crawford of Washington; five grandchildren, Michael, Bailey, Logan, Cassie and Billy; and several step-grandchildren.

Deceased are two brothers, Clarence F. Knight Jr. and Thomas L. Knight.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 27, with Pastor Rudy Plants officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
