Enjoyed farming, spending time with family

Louis E. Menichi, 89, of McDonald (Hickory), passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, in his home, with his family by his side.

He was born October 15, 1923, in Elizabeth, a son of the late Stefano and Jennie Cappelli Menichi.

Mr. Menichi was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and was a self-employed farmer who started in Venetia and moved to Hickory in 1952. He also worked for Canonsburg Milling Co. for 13 years driving a portable feed grinding truck that serviced area farmers.

Mr. Menichi enjoyed farming, spending time with fellow farmers and friends, tinkering with farming equipment, but most of all, spending time with his family.

On October 24, 1953, he married his beloved wife, Sarah E. “Betty” Chambers, who passed away August 28, 2003.

Surviving are a son, David E. (Lisa) Menichi of Coraopolis; two daughters, Lynnette E. (Peter) Ligman of McMurray and Patrice S. (Edward) Johnstonbaugh of Venetia; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Rebecca) Ligman, Adam (Jaime) Ligman, Matthew (Lauren) Ligman, Kaitlyn Ligman, Ryan and Shane Johnstonbaugh, Heidi Gregori and Tim (Katie) Gross; four great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Keegan, Owen and Helen; two sisters, Erma Grego of Venetia and Anna Marie Corrado of McMurray; sister-in-law, Jennie “Dottie” Menichi of McDonald; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, is a brother, Ernest Menichi, who passed away in 2000.

Friends are welcome from from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 1. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
