Enjoyed time spent with grandchildren
G. Helen Coss, 80, of New Freeport, died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, following a recent illness.
She was born May 15, 1933, in Littleton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Austin and Leo Williams Cain.
Mrs. Coss had been a resident of New Freeport and Freeport Township, since 1964.
She was baptized in the Sand Hill Church of Christ in Garrison.
Mrs. Coss was a member, former president and secretary of New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, where she enjoyed volunteering her assistance with events.
She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Coss, and her late husband, were co-owners and operators of the former Coss Automatic Transmission Shop in Monaca from 1972 until 1976. She was last employed as a seamstress at the former Greenway Manufacturing plant in Waynesburg.
On November 10, 1952, she married Thomas Ray Coss, who died October 2, 2007.
Surviving are two daughters, Patty A. Ashcraft and Tammy K. Coss; two sons, Thomas, husband of Mary Coss and Joseph, husband of Kathy Coss, all of New Freeport; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Sally L., wife of Dean Carter of Ravenswood, W.Va.; a brother-in-law, Mack Coss Jr., husband of Phyllis Coss of Newton Falls, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a grandchild who died in infancy; a sister, Evelyn Cain; and a brother, Rex Cain.
Friends will be received from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday in Rush Funeral Home Inc. Rogersville. Public graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, in the Coss family cemetery, Freeport Township, with the Rev. Vernon K. Berdine officiating.
