Employed at Washington Hospital School of Nursing

Rebecca Elizabeth Bush Bunner of Washington died Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in Donnell House after a lengthy illness.

She was born April 21, 1949, in Washington, a daughter of John L. Bush and Nellie Gontas Bush, who are deceased.

Mrs. Bunner was a 1967 graduate of Trinity High School and a 1970 graduate of Robert Morris College.

She was employed at the Washington Hospital School of Nursing for 43 years, retiring in October 2013.

Mrs. Bunner was a member of Washington Church of Christ for more than 20 years, where she was once a Sunday school teacher.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and looked forward to the birth of another in May. She also enjoyed art shows and had an appreciation of all arts.

On May 23, 1980, she married Bernard F. Bunner, who passed away November 15, 2007.

Surviving are a son, Bernard John “BJ” (Christina) Bunner of Washington; three stepchildren, Michael B. Bunner, Scott E. Bunner and Lisa L. Rogers; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Ryan and John Robert Bunner; eight stepgrandchildren, Ann (Adam) Brown, John (Erin) Bunner, Nicole, Nick and Gregory Bunner, Michael, Matthew and Timothy Rogers.

Deceased is a brother, John L. Bush Sr., and a stepson, Christopher L. Bunner.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13. Burial is private.

Laberta DiFlauro D’Amico, 85, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 9, 2014, in Canonsburg Hospital.

She was born November 17, 1928, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late John and Amelia Tamburro DiFlauro.

Mrs. D’Amico was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg for many years.

She loved to bake and share recipes and goodies with her family and friends. She loved her family and considered her friends as part of her extended family.

On November 16, 1957, in Immaculate Conception Church in Pittsburgh, she married Domenic D’Amico, who survives, and with whom she recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Surviving are two daughters, Amy and Christine D’Amico, and a son, Alfonzo (Cindy) D’Amico, all of Canonsburg; a brother, Raymond DiFlauro of California; a nephew, John DiFlauro and his family of California; an aunt and uncle, Rose and Nick Tamburro and their family of Verona; and many loved cousins and friends.

Deceased are a brother, Abraham DiFlauro, and a niece, Michelle DiFlauro.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg, where departing prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 13, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

Former Waynesburg resident was world traveler

Diane Davis, 70, of Woolrich, formerly of Waynesburg, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in Manor Care Health Services, Jersey Shore, following a lengthy illness.

She was born November 29, 1943, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late John R. and Dorothy Smith Davis.

Miss Davis was a 1961 graduate of Waynesburg High School and a 1965 graduate of Penn Commercial. She also attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

She had worked for Central Greene School District.

Miss Davis was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, Waynesburg, where she taught children’s moments. She was a former Sunday school teacher in Fordyce Methodist Church, and had served as worthy advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Waynesburg for several years.

She traveled extensively, including trips to Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.

Surviving are a sister, Joretta D. Judy (Wade) of Woolrich; a nephew, Gordon Judy; and two great-nieces, Amanda Judy and Melanie Judy Thompson (Steve).

Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a sister, Coleen Davis.

Retiree of Washington Hospital

Naomi Faye Hutchinson Day, 76, of Canton Township, Washington, died Thursday, January 9, 2014, in her home.

She was born in West Bethlehem Township August 24, 1937, a daughter of the late William T. and Evelyn Payne Hutchinson.

Mrs. Day attended Barr School and West Bethlehem High School. She worked for 23 years at Washington Hospital, until her retirement in 1999.

She was a member of Friendship Community Church, where she was a choir member and enjoyed helping with various church activities, including quilting and being part of the prayer chain. She also enjoyed reading, crafts, playing Scrabble, babysitting, her flower garden, participating in cultural events, travel and attending her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.

On February 17, 1956, she married Homer Robert Day in Winchester, Va. Together, they shared 52 years of marriage, before his death on June 5, 2008.

She is survived by five children, Phillip Ray Day of Washington, Robert Dale (Renee) Day of Lone Pine, Debra Denise Gallo of Washington, Sandra Dawn (William) Chappel of Washington and Melody Joy Day of Washington; eight brothers, Richard Hutchinson of Florida, Robert (Janice) Hutchinson of Tennessee, Darrell (Kim) Hutchinson of Ohio, William (Linda) Hutchinson of Michigan, Lester “David” (Brenda) Hutchinson of Pennsylvania, Keith “Jim” (Veronica) Hutchinson of Pennsylvania, Douglas (Brenda) Hutchinson of Pennsylvania and Dennis (Erin) Hutchinson of Pennsylvania; five sisters, Judith (John) Bobelak of Florida, Constance Maloney of Colorado, Christine Burnsworth of Ohio, Debra (Dennis) DeNagel of Florida and Nadine (Bruce) Sheets of Pennsylvania; three sisters-in-law, Edie Hutchinson of Pennsylvania, Blanche Hutchinson of Florida, and Jane (Erold) Fletcher of California; nine grandchildren, Mandy (Chris) Bird, Marsha (Evan) Gerber, Brittany Lundsford, William Gallo, Jaclyn Chappel, William Chappel, Harrison Chappel, Rachael (David) Bruno and Maggie Bober; and six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin, Samantha, Madison, Allison, and Andrew.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are two brothers, Kenneth Hutchinson and Roger Hutchinson; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Hutchinson; and two brothers-in-law, John Burnsworth and Jack Teagarden.

Enjoyed golfing and music

Marjorie Ducray DeFaveri, 86, of McDonald, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in St. Clair Hospital.

She was born October 7, 1927, in McDonald, a daughter of Ralph William and Isabelle Benard Ducray.

Mrs. DeFaveri was a McDonald High School graduate. She worked as a service advisor for Bell of Pennsylvania, where she retired in 1985.

She enjoyed golfing and music.

On August 8, 1980, she married Peter R. DeFaveri, who died November 15, 2009.

Surviving are a niece, Jodi (Doug) McKay of McDonald; a nephew, F. Jay (Diane) Nation Jr. of Mt. Pleasant Township; a cousin, Leon “Lee” (Emmy Lou) Ducray of Mt. Lebanon; a grandson, Matthew McKay of McDonald; two great-nieces, Katie (Anthony) Nation-Cirocco of Shaler and Tori Nation of McDonald; and a great-nephew, Christian Nation of McDonald.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, PA 15057, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13. Interment will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald.

54-year member of American Legion Post 175

Richard B. Dimmack, 92, of Newark, Del., went home to be with his Lord Monday, January 6, 2014.

He was born May 22, 1921, to Arthur and Isa Dimmack in Washington, where he lived before moving to Delaware in 2000, spending the last 13 years with his daughter.

Mr. Dimmack was a 50-year member of Masons Lodge 164, Washington, a 54-year member of American Legion Post 175, Washington, and a member of P.T. Boats Inc., Boat 252 Unit RON 20.

He married Betty Jane Lowry on August 17, 1946.

Surviving are his sons, Richard L. Dimmack and A. David Dimmack; daughter Susan Corbett; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

Deceased are his loving wife of 32 years, Betty Jane; grandson Richard J. Dimmack; his parents; brother Frank Dimmack; and sister Amy Dimmack Osborne.

Services will be held Thursday, January 9, in St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, 10 Old Newark Road, Newark, DE 19713. Burial will be in Washington at a later date.

Educator and philanthropist

Ivan H. Guesman, 97, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in his home with his wife by his side.

He was born December 28, 1916, in Rices Landing, a son of the late Homer F. and Effie Crago Guesman.

Mr. Guesman served in the U.S. Army during World War II and for 25 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a colonel.

He graduated from Carmichaels High School in 1934 and California State College and received his master’s degree from West Virginia University.

Mr. Guesman was a dedicated teacher for many years, having started in a one-room schoolhouse at Homeville in Jefferson School District. Later, he served as an elementary school principal and superintendent in West Greene School District. He then joined the faculty at California University of Pennsylvania, where he taught and was the director of student teachers.

He was a member of Hewitt Presbyterian Church of Rices Landing.

Mr. Guesman and his wife are well-known for their generous support of education, health care and churches throughout the community and beyond.

On March 30, 1943, he married Adelaide Ivill, who survives.

Also surviving is a nephew, Keith Collins of Inman, S.C.

Deceased are two sisters, Beatrice Guesman and Louise Collins, and two brothers, Raymond Guesman and Clifford Guesman.

Lois Aldene John, 83, of Weirton, W.Va., formerly of Greene County, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in Brightwood Center, Follansbee, W.Va.

She was born Tuesday, November 18, 1930, in Greene County, a daughter of the late Harry Tennant and Jessie Rogers Tennant.

Mrs. John was a homemaker.

Her husband, Alton A. John, whom she married July 4, 1947, died December 8, 2008.

Surviving are six daughters, Mary Brown of Sisterville, Barb Yaworski of Weirton, Kayda Lipscomb of Weirton, Kathy White of Steubenville, Ohio, Kim Berletich of Burgettstown and Susie John of Morgantown, W.Va.; three sons, Danny John of Follansbee, Johnny John of Aurora, Ohio, and David John of Morgantown; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, William “Bill” Tennant of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three sons, Billy John, Eddie John and Thomas John; a grandson, John Ritter; a great-grandson, Wyatt Smitsky; two sisters, Mary Walters and Mae Blouir; and a brother, Huck Tennant.

Choir member enjoyed cooking and baking

Mary Fecycz Kotyk, 92, of Canonsburg, passed away January 4, 2014, after a brief illness.

She was born in Maniow, Poland, February 28, 1921, to Theodore and Eva Shushereba Fecycz. Mrs. Kotyk emigrated with her family to the United States in 1926, and settled in Canonsburg, where she lived her entire life.

Mrs. Kotyk worked at the former RCA facility in Meadow Lands for more than 35 years as an electronic assembler and inspector, prior to her retirement.

She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church in Canonsburg and sang in the choir for over 50 years. She also volunteered at the weekly bingo held at St. John’s for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her lifelong friends and family.

On June 28, 1942, she married John “Cap” Kotyk, and shared 50 years together, prior to his passing in 1992.

Surviving are son John Kotyk and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Kotyk of Acton, Mass.; and two grandsons, Nicholas Kotyk of Canonsburg and Christopher Kotyk of Irvine, Calif.

Mrs. Kotyk was the last of her immediate family. She was the oldest of four children.

Deceased are siblings U.S. Army Private First Class Nicholas Fecycz, who was killed in action in France in 1944; John Fecycz, formerly of Canonsburg, who passed away in 2006; and Helen Fecycz Brunasky, formerly of Houston, who passed away in 2012.

Mary L. Williams Murray, 88, of South Park, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, December 28, 2013.

Deceased are her husband, Benjamin Murray, and her daughter, Nancy L. Farrelli. She was the last of her siblings but leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and members of her loving church family.

Retired Trinity Area School District teacher

Russell D. Walker, 65, of Whitehall, died Thursday, January 9, 2014.

He was the beloved husband of Karen Monro Walker; father of Emily and Theresa Walker; son of the late Norbert and Sarah Ann Walker and brother of Carl (Marlynne) Walker and the late Ronald (survived by Patricia) Walker, Kenneth Walker, R. Raymond (survived by Karen) Walker and Susan Walker.

Mr. Walker was a retired teacher for Trinity Area School District, where he taught reading and English for 35-and-a-half years. He was also an avid gardener who was interested in environmentally friendly gardening techniques.

He was a passionate supporter of the Whitehall Public Library. As a teenager, he was the second page ever hired by the library. He had a nine-year tenure on the Whitehall Public Library’s Board of Trustees, serving as board president, vice president, secretary and Allegheny County Library Association representative. He recently took an active role in the Friends of Whitehall Library.
