Mary Elizabeth LaVelle Slobodgen
Former glassworker was always helping others
Mary Elizabeth LaVelle Slobodgen, 82, of Canonsburg, formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in Consulate Health Care, North Strabane Township, following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 14, 1931, in Washington, a daughter of the late Raymond M. LaVelle and Laura Marie Jones LaVelle.
She was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School.
Mrs. Slobodgen was a homemaker and worked at Metro Glass in Washington for 18 years.
She was a loving and caring person, always helping family and friends. She will be remembered for all the time she spent helping others. She liked to roller skate and enjoyed bowling.
She was married to Joseph Edward Slobodgen, who died January 4, 2005.
Surviving is a son, Lawrence Joseph “Joe” LaVelle of Washington.
Deceased are a son, Michael Slobodgen; two brothers, Raymond W. LaVelle and George Herbert LaVelle; and a stepmother, Irma Romano LaVelle.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Thursday, January 23, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Burial is private.
