Melvin J. Marietta, 89, of Dilliner, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born June 4, 1924, in Dunbar, he was a son of the late Jacob and Olive Brewer Marietta.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Marietta retired from the Shannopin Mine in Bobtown, and was a proud member for 60 years of United Mine Workers of America, and a member of American Legion.
Surviving are his children, Melvin Dale Marietta of Florida, George Marietta of Dilliner, Charles Wayne Marietta of Arizona, John R. Marietta of Downingtown, Melba Jean Marietta-Thomas of Pittsburgh and Alice Carol Pecjak of Mapletown; a stepson, Curt Barrett of Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Marietta of Carlisle; and two sisters, Joan Colvin of Crucible and Shirley Brubaker of Texas.
Deceased are his wife, Alice Kuhn, in 1985; a son, John W. Marietta; a brother, Paul; and a sister, Jean Willenburg.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of funeral services, Tuesday, March 11, in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Philip S. Rishel, owner and director. Pastor Beverly Roscoe will officiate. Interment will follow in Wolf’s Cemetery, Dilliner, with military rites accorded at the graveside by the Point Marion Veterans posts.
