Instrumental in Gastonville Honor Roll restoration

Harry Carter, 88, of Finleyville, died Friday, March 7, 2014, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Hills.

He was born October 25, 1925, in Gastonville, a son of Harry and Edith Phillips Carter.

Mr. Carter was a 1943 graduate of Clairton High School and was retired as an accountant with the former LTV Steel Corp.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, was a member of American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville and was instrumental in the restoration and maintenance of Gastonville Honor Roll.

Surviving are his wife, Juanita Balliard Carter; two daughters, Amy Bozick and husband Michael of Marianna and Holly Jones and husband Bill of Allison Park; and two grandsons, Ryan and Justin Wolfe.

Deceased is a sister, Edith Knoedler.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kegel Funeral Home Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, 3560 Washington Avenue, Finleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, with Pastor Brent Furlong officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. American Legion Post 613 will conduct services at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
