Carl M. Baldigowski
Mechanically inclined sports enthusiast
Carl M. Baldigowski, 74, of Midway, died Monday, March 10, 2014, in his home.
He was born May 31, 1939, in McDonald, son of the late John J. and Genevieve Zombeck Baldigowski.
Mr. Baldigowski worked as a civilian employee at the 117th Air Refueling Wing of the Air National Guard in Moon Township for 36 years before retiring in 1994.
He was a sports enthusiast, and in addition to being a member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard Golf League, enjoyed watching the Penguins, Steelers and Pitt basketball games. As a young man, he was a member of the 1956 Midway High School WPIAL Championship football team. He was mechanically inclined and liked tinkering with vehicles, refinishing furniture, doing yard work and even built his own house. He loved time spent with his wife and grandchildren and enjoyed walking his dogs.
On January 28, 1961, he married Gloria J. Janeshek, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Kelly (Robert) Sterner of Imperial, Kristin (Karl) Shaffer of Upper St. Clair and Stacey (Richard) Gasior of Midway; two sons, Mark (Tina) Baldigowski of Upper St. Clair and Bryan Baldigowski of Midway; seven sisters, Josephine (late Robert) Grutzik of Dover, Del., Helen (Richard) Daniels, Veronica (Carl) Daniels, Susan Cobb and Rose (late Bill) Haines, all of McDonald, Bonnie (Richard) Green of Virginia Beach, Va., and Diana (Ronald) Chauvet of Oakdale; four brothers, John (Linda) Baldigowski, Eugene Baldigowski and Michael Baldigowski, all of McDonald, and Daniel Baldigowski of Canonsburg; nine grandchildren, Sydney, Zachary and Quinn Sterner, McKenzie, Cameryn and Aiden Shaffer, Tatum Baldigowski, Nathaniel and Ian Gasior; and a special caregiver, Robin Hoberek.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14 in St. Alphonsus Church, McDonald, with the Rev. Ben Vaghetto officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Midway.
