Purple Heart veteran retired from Joy Manufacturing
Theodore William Takacs Sr., 70, of Donegal Township, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in UPMC-Shadyside, Pittsburgh.
He was born August 10, 1943 in Canonsburg, a son of Julia Rebosky Takacs, of Canonsburg, and the late Theodore Joseph Takacs.
Mr. Takacs graduated from Canon-McMillan High School and Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He served in the U.S. Navy, receiving a Purple Heart in the Vietnam War and reached the rank of AE3. He last served at Whiting Field, Fla. He was a member of the Taylorstown American Legion and the Canonsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Takacs was a retired employee of Joy Manufacturing, where he worked as a mechanic for fourteen years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycles and old cars. He was active in youth sports as a coach.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two sons, Theodore W. (Theresa) Takacs Jr. of West Alexander and Dwayne (Autumn) Takacs of Washington; a sister, Barbara McGary of Canonsburg; and eight grandchildren, Ted, Bethany, Breanna, Haley, Maddison, Jackson, Wyatt and Julie Takacs.
Deceased in addition to his father is a son, Shane W. Takacs.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, in Hummell & Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director, where services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, with Pastor Brian Greenleaf officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
