William E. Snyder
William E. Snyder, 91, of Bentleyville, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017, in his home.
He was born November 13, 1926, in Bentleyville, a son of the late Ernest E. and Edna Greenlee Snyder.
Mr. Snyder was a 1944 graduate of Bentleyville High School.
He was employed by West Penn Power in Charleroi as a linesman for 41 years, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Snyder was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a sergeant in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He served in the Philippines, Letye, Gaum and Saipan. For his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a lifelong member of Bentleyville United Methodist Church, a charter member of Bentleyville Fireman’s Band, which formed in 1938, and a former member of American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville.
Mr. Snyder enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, helping out on the family farm and sports, especially Penn State.
He was the husband of Janet E. Snyder, who died January 9, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Hazuga (Gary) of Bentleyville; son David E. Snyder of Monroe, N.C.; brother Harold Snyder (Marian) of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister Shirley Nicholl (Val) of Eighty Four; five grandchildren, Destanee Hazuga, Dylan Tylus, Louis Urcho, Cody and Leigha Snyder; four great-grandchildren, Riley, Cole, Chase and Decker Tylus; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, is a daughter, Debra L. Urcho.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 8, with the Rev. Barbara Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 165 of Bentleyville. In lieu of flowers, visitors are encouraged to bring a toy to be donated to Toys for Tots.
