Elizabeth M. Cernava
Elizabeth Mary Cernava, 85, of Sewickley, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 10, 2017, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born May 26, 1932, in Canonsburg, to John and Marguerite Kelly Wilson, who preceded her in death.
On September 3, 1955, she married Frank S. Cernava, who passed away December 23, 1993.
Mrs. Cernava was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Canonsburg, where she was a member of Christian Mothers and Guild of St. Patrick. She was also a member of Jefferson College Historical Society.
She was employed by Mellon Bank as a bank teller until she became co-owner, together with her husband, in an insurance agency.
She enjoyed many interests and hobbies, including playing piano, crossword puzzles, gardening and taking care of her home. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and cherished their times together.
She is survived by her children, Patrice M. Bell (Tom) of Baltimore, Md., Susan E. Elson (fiancee Edward McNeight Jr.) of Sewickley, with whom she made her home, Carol A. McCormick (Michael) of Mt. Laurel, N.J., Leslie C. Saks (Simon) of Huntington Station, N.Y., and her only son, Stephen Cernava (Mary) of Upper Burrell; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth and Stephen Debes, Kelly and Marguerite Elson, Chester (Alison) and Stefan Cernava, Benjamin, Hannah and Grace Saks; two great-grandchildren, Noah Stephen Cernava and Dylon Crumlin; and a niece, Sylvia Bolga, who was very special to her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Wilson.
At the request of the family, the family viewing, Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church and interment at Forest Lawn Gardens in McMurray are all private.
