Samuel Leo King

Samuel Leo King, 74, of Waynesburg, went to be with his Lord at 10:36 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2017, in his Center Township home.

He was born Friday, February 5, 1943, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Etta Kiger and stepfather the late Clarence Kiger. He was raised by his foster grandmother, Icie Stewart, and his foster cousin, Vannie Roach. His father was the late Pete Corwin.

Mr. King was a member of Eastview Assembly of God Church in Waynesburg.

He enjoyed playing Santa for several years for Head Start in Waynesburg, and he never knew a stranger. He loved cars and would help as a mechanic at Bob and Buzz Garage in Waynesburg.

Mr. King was a member of the Coal Miners Association and National Rifle Association. He was a former member of Center Township Volunteer Fire Department and East Franklin Grange and was the former auditor for Center Township, Greene County. He was also a notary public and a member of U.S. Steel Union.

Over the years, he worked many construction jobs. He worked 20 years at Plasteel Products in Washington and 20 years in the maintenance department for Curry Home, now Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Waynesburg.

On August 24, 1963, he married his first wife, Sara Lee King, who died December 2, 1993. On October 5, 1995, he married his second wife, Joyce Morris King, who survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Lisa (Steve) Giessler of Morgantown, W.Va., Pamela S. (Neil) Gourley of New Gallee, Alicia (Chris) Jones of Waynesburg and Jessica (Donnie) Flanigan of Waynesburg; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Joanna Clark of Zionsville, Ind.; a brother, Jerry (Margaret) Kiger of Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to the above mentioned family, are two brothers, Bill Corwin and Richard Kiger.

Divita and Amedisys Hospice provided Mr. King with great care.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 14, with the Rev. Larry Douglas and Pastor James Galbraith officiating. Private burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville.
