Walter A. McDowell

Walter A. McDowell, 77, of Graysville, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017, in his home.

Born January 21, 1940, in Cameron, W.Va., he was a son of the late Kenneth Dexter and Beatrice Johnson McDowell.

Mr. McDowell was a 1959 graduate of Cameron High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He made Greene County his permanent home in 1965 after marrying Evelyn Marie Snyder. He was a former member of Harvey’s Aleppo Grange and attended the Bristoria Baptist Church.

Mr. McDowell worked in the gas industry and retired from Texas Eastern after 33 years as a mechanic.

He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with engines, mowing the Fairview Cemetery with his buddies and spending time with his family.

Surviving are three children, Kay (Bob) Harris of Waynesburg, Dianna “D. J.” (Chuck) Headley of Spraggs and Keith (Karla) McDowell of Prosperity; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Pyles of New Martinsville, W.Va.; a brother, Ray McDowell of Cibolo, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Nellie Tustin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marie Snyder McDowell, and two brothers, James and Randy McDowell.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home LLC., 3275 West Roy Furman Highway Rogersville, PA 15359, 724-499-5181, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 17, with Pastor Gary Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Graysville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
