Thomas Joseph Matthews Jr.
Thomas Joseph Matthews Jr., 61, of Washington, died Monday, December 18, 2017, in South Hills Rehabilitation Center.
He was born February 28, 1956, in Canonsburg, a son of Thomas Joseph Matthews Sr. and the late Allegra Daily Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a graduate of Trinity High School and California University of Pennsylvania, where he earned master’s degrees in mathematics and computer science.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a former president of Paralyzed Veterans of America and a former board member of TRPIL (Transitional Paths to Independent Living).
Mr. Matthews enjoyed fishing, volunteering for disability organizations and old cars.
He was a member of Friendship Community Church.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are a son, Ryan Gandleman; a daughter, Alisha Sienkiel; four sisters, Shonda (Sam) Wilkinson, Letecia Vankirk, Joanne Longstreath and Kimberly (Sam) Spino, all of Washington; his best friend, Elizabeth Gandleman of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his mother, is a brother, James Edward Matthews.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of services, Thursday, December 21, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Mike Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
