Sylvia Andy
Sylvia Andy, 90, of Washington, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 30, 2017.
She was born January 15, 1927, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Rose and John Verrone.
Mrs. Andy was the beloved wife of the late Frank Andy Sr.; loving mother to Christine (Dennis) Bitz and Karen Andy; cherished grandmother of Jason (Audra) Andy, Angela Kelley, Eric (Holly) Bitz, Daniel (Stephanie) Bitz, Alexsandra Bitz, Matthew Myzak and Michael Myzak; dear great-grandmother of Morgan, Maverick, Anthony, Arabella, Natalia, Henry and Joseph; loving sister to Jean Mascetta; and mother-in-law of Debora Andy.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are son Frank Andy Jr.; sister Marguerite; and great-grandchild Audia.
She graduated from Duff’s Iron City Business College in Pittsburgh. She had worked for a patent attorney in Pittsburgh, Fort Pitt Bridge Works in Canonsburg, and finally for the family business, Andy Brothers Tire Service in Canonsburg and J&F Tire in Houston.
Mrs. Andy was a member and past president of Martha Washington Quilter’s Guild. She was very proud of her dedication to I.C. School Quilting group, where she contributed to completing a quilt each year that was raffled off to benefit the school. She also volunteered at the snack bar at Washington County Health Center for many years.
She loved quilting, jigsaw puzzles, her orchids and rose garden, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, and most of all having Sunday dinners with family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546, where a blessing service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 3. Internment will take place privately in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John F. Kennedy Catholic School.
