William L. Hartley
The world lost a great man Wednesday, November 1, 2017, when William L. “Bill” Hartley, 69, of Amity, passed away, following a lengthy illness.
He was born December 4, 1947, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Lloyd “Bud” and Jean Mankey Hartley.
Mr. Hartley became a barber soon after graduating from Trinity High School in 1965. A local barber for 50 years, he owned and operated Hartley’s Styling Shop until he was unable to work due to illness.
From 1967 to 1975, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Mr. Hartley was a member of Amity United Methodist Church, American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and Sunset Lodge 623 Free and Accepted Masons for 42 years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He loved people, cutting hair, farming and telling jokes. He was a kind, loving and generous man who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Throughout his 50 years of being a barber, he touched many lives with his wittiness and good advice. He will be missed by all who knew him.
On December 2, 1967, he married Linda I. Pattison, who survives. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December.
Also surviving are two sons, Scott (Tammye) Hartley and Jason (Jeannette) Hartley; a brother, Samuel Hartley; a sister, Nancy Norville; three grandchildren, Matthew, Jase and Jonna Hartley; several nieces and nephews; and in-laws Grace (Ralph) Horne and Dan (Mary) Pattison.
Deceased are a son, Shawn D. Hartley; a brother, Thomas Hartley; and a sister, Gayle Hartley Spinnenweber.
Friends will be received from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to noon Monday, November 6, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Amity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lois Swestyn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Sunset Lodge will hold Masonic services at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
