Francis Regis Gallagher

Francis Regis “Knute” Gallagher, 76, of Cecil, died Friday, November 3, 2017, in Concordia Hospice, Washington.

He was born November 17, 1940, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Francis R. and Rose M. Martino Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher was a member of St. Mary Parish, Cecil, and Muse Italian Club.

He graduated from Canonsburg High School and earned a wrestling scholarship to Indiana University. He enjoyed Notre Dame football and was a champion weightlifter, earning over 30 trophies.

Mr. Gallagher worked at McGraw-Edison, Canonsburg, and had his own landscaping business. He was also a nursing assistant for Mayview State Hospital.

Surviving are a son, Mark Stopperich of Canonsburg; four grandchildren, Markus, Micah, Luke and Abigail Stopperich, all of Canonsburg; a brother, David (Barbara) Gallagher of Roswell, Ga.; two nephews, Brian (Megan) Gallagher of Roswell and Sean (Emily) Gallagher of Acworth, Ga.; and two great-nieces, Nora and Mia Gallagher.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a son, Sean Stopperich.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m., the time of services, Thursday, November 9, in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road (Rt. 50), Cecil, with Father Stan Gregorek officiating.

Private interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
