Gary L. Lowery
Gary L. Lowery, 77, of Scenery Hill, died Thursday, November 9, 2017, in his home.
He was born March 3, 1940, in Washington.
Mr. Lowery was a graduate of Washington High School and was employed as a coal miner at Valley Camp, Westland, and Beth Energy Mine 58 in Marianna. He also worked for Elliott Co. and later All-Clad Metalcrafters, until his retirement in 2004.
He was a longtime member of Marianna United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee and enjoyed helping with dinners and hoagie sales.
Mr. Lowery played dartball for Mar/Zol and enjoyed working on his cars and trucks, attending car shows, deer hunting, attending Rogers Flea Market and spending time with his family, especially on their vacations to the beach.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Nellie M. Sumner Lowery; a daughter, Lisa Lynn Lowery (Don) Rice of Richeyville; a stepgrandson, Zachary Knopp; and two nieces, Belinda Lowery and Cecelia Lowery.
Deceased are a son, Gary Lee Lowery Jr.; his mother, Virginia Rogers Gorby; his stepfather, Marion O. Gorby; a brother, John Lowery; and a nephew, John Lowery Jr.
Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1728 Main Street, Marianna, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, with the Rev. Monte Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Scenery Hill.
