Frank L. Ramage

Frank L. “Pap Frank” Ramage, 96, of Claysville, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017, in Washington Hospital.

He was born February 4, 1921, in the family home in Claysville, a son of the late Robert Bruce Ramage and Ione Linville Ramage.

Mr. Ramage worked on the family farm and as a factory worker at Brockway Glass No. 7.

He was a member of Claysville Christian Church.

Mr. Ramage loved his family, family gatherings, the farm and holidays. He also raised, showed and farmed Belgian horses. One of the original 4-H leaders, he enjoyed Washington County Fair and other local fairs, horse sales and traveling to Amish Country and visiting with his Amish friends.

He was very active in horse pulls. He also pulled horses and was a judge at local horse pulls and Pennsylvania State Farm Show.

Mr. Ramage was a member of West Alexander Saddle Club, a charter member of Washington County Horse and Mule Association and a member of Pennsylvania Horse and Mule Association. He was also a lifelong member of Belgian Draft Horse Corp. of America, a member of Future Farmers of America and a Donegal Township road supervisor.

On June 27, 1939, he married Daunice L. Clutter, who died November 27, 1998.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Kathryn (the late Albert) Hrobak of Warren, Ohio, Phyllis R. (the late Donald E.) Ryburn of Washington and Janice L. (the late Phillip “Flip”) Buckingham of Claysville; seven grandchildren, Tammie Jo (Chad) Buckingham Moore, Judd W. Caldwell, R. Bruce Ryburn, J. Mark (Niki) Ryburn, Shelly (Greg) Caldwell Woods, Eric K. (Jane) Buckingham and Rend’ee K. (the late Brian) Caldwell Leech; eight great-grandchildren, Karae Wigal (Sam “Diesel”) Avolia, Taylor (Andy) Aughe, Hunter Moore, Raven Moore, Madison Ryburn, Preston Buckingham, Victoria Buckingham and Ryer Hull; and four great-great-grandchildren, Dakohta Avolia, Emmah Avolia, Kaylee Aughe and Kaiden Aughe.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are a daughter, Emma “Charlene” Ramage Caldwell, and two siblings, Frances “Ick” Haynes and Halden J. Ramage.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Monday, November 20, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Meade Lacock officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
